It all started with a stamp album my grandmother put in my hands. At first, it was simple childhood curiosity. Very quickly, it became a passion.
From that album, I wanted to understand, identify, and classify. I spent hours in catalogs, scoured stamp dealers, and attended fairs and gatherings. From the age of 13, I bought everywhere I could, whenever I could. I often asked my father to take me there.
But that album wasn’t just a collection. It also told the story of my family, the countries my ancestors traversed, the lives they had led.
Flipping through those pages, I felt I held a piece of their journey — sometimes even the complete thread of their existence — in my hands.
Today, I am 32 years old, and I have lived philately for nearly two decades.
I learned the trade in Paris, in direct contact with professional dealers. That’s where I understood an essential thing:
Expertise isn’t learned only in books. It is built by handling thousands of pieces, observing details, spotting invisible flaws, and identifying rarities that only the eye and experience can detect.
What I’ve done (and few do)
To become a credible expert, I left the office.
- In the field, all across France I went directly to individuals and heirs to estimate collections, often on a corner of a table.
- Cash buybacks, in real conditions I have bought back hundreds of collections, both from heirs and collectors who contacted me directly for an appraisal and sale.
- Proven by the numbers I have appraised thousands of collections and completed thousands of transactions on eBay.
I have handled a considerable volume of stamps. I know where to look, which sources to consult, and how to distinguish a common piece from a truly interesting specimen.
